General Questions

  1. Do I need to make an appointment for any of the fitness tests?
At FitnessWave San Diego, all of our tests are conducted BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. We strive to do our absolute best to accommodate your schedule, including weekend appointments, so give us a call to schedule your test today, 858-573-WAVE.

  2. After my initial test, how often should I re-test?
Re-testing tends to vary based on your goals. For our hydrostatic body fat tests, if you are aggressively pursuing your goals we recommend testing every eight to twelve weeks, whereas a person mainly concerned with maintaining their goals, retesting every six to twelve months should be sufficient. For both RMR and VO2 tests, we recommend re-tests every six months to a year.

  3. Are there any incentives if I refer a friend to test at FitnessWave?
Yes! Not only do we appreciate your referrals, we reward you. For every fifth person you refer to us, you receive one hydrostatic body fat dunk free.

  4. My friends and family are trying to get healthier together, do you offer any group discount rates?
We love when people team up with those closest to them to get healthy, so we offer discount rates depending on the size of your group. For groups of five or larger you receive a 15% discount, and for groups of 10 or larger you receive a 20% discount. Remember this also applies to sports teams or fitness groups – the more the merrier!

  5. Once I receive the results from my test, is there any additional help available to me to help me reach my goals?
Yes. Not only will your FitnessWave representative go over all of your results with you in detail, we have outside relationships with local fitness and nutrition professionals that we would be happy to recommend. We want to see you succeed!

Preparing For Your Dunk (Hydrostatic Body Fat Test)

  2. What should I wear?
Please wear snug fitting clothing. We recommend a swimsuit, compression shorts, sports bra, or speedo, etc. Please avoid regular men's swim trunks as they can trap a lot of air underwater, which can affect your results.

  3. Will my hair get wet?
During the course of this test your entire body, including your head, will be under water. If this is a problem, you are welcome to bring a swim cap with you.

  4. Can I eat or drink prior to the test?
Eating and drinking prior to testing has no appreciable effect on the outcome of your dunk. However, we recommend waiting at least one hour after a large meal before testing, if possible. As for drinking, just stay hydrated at your usual level.

  5. Can I work out prior to my dunk?
Yes you can. Although we do recommend you give yourself at least 20 minutes of cool down time prior to testing. This is because we want to have your heart rate at or about your normal level.

  6. Do I get my printout at the time of the test?
Absolutely! As a matter of fact, one of our FitnessWave representatives will go over your six-page results printout with you and give you some helpful advice. It's a lot of fun and a great way to see where you stand.

This is an exercise test, so workout clothes are required. This can be whatever you feel comfortable wearing at the gym or during physical activity, including wearing sneakers or running shoes.

  3. Can I eat or drink prior to the test?
Prepare yourself as if you were going to be doing some vigorous exercise. We recommend a small, light meal about one hour prior to the test. As for drinking, we recommend you stay hydrated at your usual level.

  4. Can I workout prior to my VO2 test?
We highly recommend not working out prior to the test. We want you to have fresh legs so that you can perform the test at your best for the most accurate results.

  5. Will I receive my results immediately?
Absolutely. In just minutes you will have your target heart rate zones and know your fitness level and how many calories you burn during a workout.
